It's been a pretty busy October at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City this year!
so much work, fun, and benifit which is most important =)
Unfortunatly, I couldn't attend all of the following activities, yet I can proudly say that I attended most of them after classes ;) cause Ladies of Courage rule right?
First and formost, introducing The Pink Majlis!
This is where most of the activities and talks were held..
this was taken last year, and the group decided to redecorate the area again this year.
The light comming through all of these pink fabrics reflected pinky shines on the walls all over the hospital.. you can really sense the Power of Pink!
Here are the highlights of October @ SKMC ~
1) FREE for National and Non National women over 40:
SCREENING MAMMOGRAMS. 2) THE SURVIVOR SERIES – Every Wednesday from noon to 1 pm during October, a breast cancer survivor told her story in The Pink Majlis:
October 5 – Breast cancer in young Women: Kristin (Canadian) and Bushara (Emirati)
October 15 – One of our SKMC Staff will be sharing her story: Denise (such a brave woman!)
October 22 – Founder of Jamilla Hope and producer of a photography show after her experience with Breast cancer, Sally cam all the way from South Africa to participate at SKMC.
October 29 – A member of the Breast Cancer Support group Bosom Buddies (Dubai), Joanne
3) PINK BRUNCH: Thursday October 9 was the day for everyone who buys lunch at the main cafeteria to donate a dirham or two to the Ladies of Courage Breast Cancer Support group at SKMC. Plus distributing Pink Lemonade for donations as well.
4) SHOP PINK – on Tuesday October 14 selling variety of PINK thingies to raise money for a patient and caregiver cancer resource library c/o The Ladies of Courage. Tables were sat up outside the main SKMC cafeteria, inside the Pink Majlis, and in the lunch area. Everything from pink rubber duckies to mouse pads to pink ribbon pins was available for sale/donation.
5) LADIES OF COURAGE MONTHLY MEETING. This (breast cancer support group) meeting which is held on the Third Thursday of every month (Thursday October 16) was held in The Pink Majlis. Anyone with breast cancer, currently or in the past is always welcome to attend. Arabic and English.
6) October 19 – Update on the Global initiative signed between the UAE and the Susan G Komen Foundation (USA) last year–
What happened after Laura Bush Left?
7) BAKE SALE. This yummy event took place on Tuesday October 21. Funds raised went towards starting an outpatient library for cancer patients and staff.
8)DOCTORS TALK October 26 . answering Q's by a panel of physicians from the SKMC Breast Clinic in the Pink Majlis. Everything you always wanted to know about Breast Cancer but were afraid to ask!
9) WEAR IT PINK DAY Thursday October 30 - this was the final day of Breast Cancer Awareness Month at SKMC. Anyone wearing something PINK, when going to the main cafeteria recieved a complimentary pink cupcake. Employees as well were encouraged to wear pink and cupcakes were also presented to them!
Fiiiinally =DMy mom attended the awarness day at
Zayed University where I study now as a spokesperson! She gave her little speech about her experience as a Breast Cancer survivor.
